Men about The House

This series of paintings explores themes of tenderness and intimacy found in same sex, male couples. I was motivated by a want to proliferate a positive life view of homosexual couples. It is a celebration of those who freely express their orientation. The work also tackles the idea of performative masculinity and its place within a domestic setting.

I depict men without trauma or disease through portraiture and imagined utopian scenes. An inner world unhindered by judgement. The paintings are my longing for a worldwide future where we are free to live without stigma. It also exposes my privilege of living in a society which is post AIDS crisis and de-criminalisation in Ireland. It is my navigation of this period.

The pieces incorporate copper gilding around the edges which gives a faint glow that seems to emanate from the images.

It is currently in production. Exhibition information will be available once confirmed.
